Is Christmas a pagan holiday?

Don’t look now, but December 25th is just around the corner. The big buildup, the culmination of the holiday season…. but why do we celebrate on December 25th? What I plan on covering in this blog may shock some of you. It may, although it’s certainly not my intention, even take something away from the Christmas season. I want to examine the origin of Christmas. Is it really the date Jesus was born? Did it start as a pagan holiday? Making sense of morality and how it points to God.

Ahh the holidays, I really like this time of year. There’s something in the air that just feels…special. There’s a slight extra grace that seems to surface, a kind nod to other shoppers who look bewildered in the stores and the “Merry Christmas” (or at least “Happy Holidays”) as you pay for your purchase. Peace on Earth, goodwill to men. But where did this notion of goodwill come from?
